Well helloooooo there!
It is an honour to be the first person to post an official review on our blog, and I could go on and on and on about how amazing it is to be running this blog with my best friends but I don't do chick flick moments so let's get straight to the point 😉
*whispers* I am super super happy to be apart of this though, thank you to everyone for letting me join, I love you all so much xx
GETTING TO THE POINT!
Half Bad. I loved it.
As soon as it was released my mum bought it and came home, she held it out to me and said:
'Em I've got you a new book!'
And when I reached out to take it she held it back saying:
'But I want to read it first because it sounds awesome!'
Ahh as much as I love my mum, she teased me so much about how she got to read it first and as soon as she was done I practically pounced on it.
I finished Half Bad in a day and a half and was HOOKED.
If you are a fan of Harry Potter and Divergent you will love this book.
Half Bad is basically about a boy called Nathan. He's a witch, living with his family in modern day England. Personally I love books set in England because I live there myself and can relate to the places and destinations mentioned in the book.
In this book Witches live in a society with normal humans, however, a little like Divergent. There are sections of government. The Black Witches and The White Witches, and they are rivals. The White Witches are more powerful in numbers and have driven the Black Witches into hiding.
Nathan is half Black Witch and Half White Witch, his mother had an affair with the most evil Black Witch of all time. Soon after she killed herself, leaving Nathan to be raised in a family consisting off his Gran, two half sisters and one half brother.
The White Witches treat Nathan as a freak, they imprison him and have plans to train him up so he can one day defeat his father. However, Nathan doesn't want to kill his father, so he escapes from the community and goes into hiding. Cutting off his family and everyone he loves including his 'girlfriend' Annalise.
In this world of Witches and Magic, when a Witch enters adult hood (17th Birthday) they recieve 3 gifts and blood from a family member. The problem is, with Nathan in hiding and his mother dead, he has no way of getting the gifts and blood. If a Witch does not get these things they could die or go insane.
So Nathan sets of to find his father, the most evil Black Witch of all time.
Half Bad is one of those books that once you pick it up, you can't put it down. Also, I find it quite impressive that an idea this good can be thought up after countless Witch, Wizard, Magic themed books. I think it is originality that makes Half Bad what it is and I am sure you will agree with me.
Sally Green, the author will be attending the book zone at London Comic Con this year (as am I whoop whoop!)
The sequel to Half Bad is called Half Wild and will be expected sometime 2015.
Overall I would probably give Half Bad 4 1/2 out of 5 and am VERY excited to hear more about Nathans journey in the future.
