Hush Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick
“He was the worst kind of wrong. He was so wrong it felt right, and that made me feel completely out of control.”

I'm not going to be the first to admit that the synopsis of hush hush pretty much falls into the stereotypical girl meets boy - boy turns out to be supernatural novel but please hold any clique opinions aside and give this book a go. I absolutely devoured this novel in a day ( which being a slow reader is a big achievement ) and adored every second of it.
I've recently been in a reading slump and wanted a book which wouldn't be too heavy and would be quick and light hearted but not contemporary - this was exactly that. The fact that this novel was set in present day largely contributed to my enjoyment as it meant that I didn't have to put much thought into building the world Nora described unlike in high fantasy or dystopian books. Nora ( our narrator ) is also close to me in age and although at some points I wondered whether I would do that, it kept everything grounded and made her easily relatable.
Characters:
Nora - Our narrator is a sophomore in high school and at the tender age of 16 has led a pretty uneventful life. She tries hard at school and keeps to the rules, well at the beginning at the series she did. I really related to Nora and saw a lot of aspects of myself in her which made it easy for me to enter her world.
Vee - Nora's best friend brings a well needed sense of normality to the story. She is the outsider and thrown into this world against her best friends will. I loved the humour she brought to the book and she strongly reminded me of my best friend with her persistent but kick ass attitude.
Patch - It's hard for me to type this without swooning because pAtCh Is jUst. His dark hair, dark eyes, dark clothing and, so it seems, dark personality tick every box in the list of *bad boy, don't go near* but our lovely Nora obviously had to go and fall in love with him. Patch's mysterious demeanour makes him the perfect Male main character as it constantly keeps you on your feet and begging for more.
I definitely recommend this book to any fans of The Mortal Instruments as it deals with angels and nephilim ( I also found that there were quite a few aspects which were very similar to TMI and TID ) although it is much more of a light read. I only started it earlier this week and have already found myself half way through the 4th and final book. It's quick, has humorous aspects but also a lot of dark undertones. Despite the mixed reviews I've seen I would put it at the top of books concerning angels ( excluding TMI ) I went into this book expecting it to be the usual YA paranormal romance and although some of the concepts are very similar to other books in its category, it proved my previous angel stereo types wrong and just to top it off, hush hush has had it's movie rights sold. Although I don't particularly love book to movie adaptations this is still exciting news! I wonder who will play Patch? I kinda imagined him as a bad ass cross between Liam Payne ( yes the guy from one direction - I don't really know why ) and Kevin Zegers
All round I'm going to give it a 7/10
Happy Reading!
