'If I stay' is a relatively short read and I finished it within a day, which I found a positive thing, as the events in the book take place over the course of around 24 hours. As Mia tries to find a purpose to stay, I found myself relating this to a smaller scale, which is the question many of us face on a regular basis: what is the point to life? Wouldn't it be so much easier to just give up, to stop fighting?
I was so enthralled by Gayle's style of writing and the idea itself hooked me right from the start. I couldn't put this book down. 'If I stay' made me rethink many aspects of life and taught me quite how grateful I should be for what is around me. Reading this book was like a wake-up call to me and I have realised how 'life can be one thing, and then in an instant, it can be the next'.
I look forward to watching the movie adaptation, featuring the amazing Chloe Grace Moretz, which is released in theatres on August 22nd! I highly recommend this book to people of all ages and would advise you to read the book before you see the movie!
