Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with an unbreakable bond to the earth's magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest and most dangerous vampires--the ones who never die.
The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa's best friend, makes her a Dhampir; she is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making her one of them.
After two years of illicit freedom, Rose and Lissa are caught and dragged back to St. Vladimir's Academy, hidden in the deep forests of Montana. Rose will continue her Dhampir education. Lissa will go back to being Queen of the elite Moroi social scene. And both girls will resume breaking hearts.
Fear made Lissa and Rose run away from St. Vladimir's--but their world is fraught with danger both inside and out of the Academy's iron gates. Here, the cutthroat ranks of the Moroi perform unspeakable rituals and their secretive nature and love of the night creates an enigmatic world full of social complexities. Rose and Lissa must navigate through this dangerous world, confront the temptation of forbidden romance, and never once let their guard down, lest the Strigoi make Lissa one of them forever...
So for my second review, I chose ‘Vampire Academy’. I finished the series around an hour ago and may or may not have cried...quite a bit. My inspiration to read the series came from Emily (the same Emily who runs this blog) and Sasha, from ‘abookutopia’ on youtube. I’m going to be reviewing the series as a whole; however will not include any spoilers.
Honestly, I don’t know where to start. Vampire Academy is amazing – one of my favourite series’, to be exact. I was so enthralled by this hidden world of vampires – the good, the bad, and the ‘guardians’ – that I found it difficult to put the books down. The series is made up of six books: ‘Vampire Academy’, ‘Frostbite’, ‘Shadow Kiss’, ‘Blood Promise’, ‘Spirit Bound’, and finally, ‘Last Sacrifice’. (Just a heads up, Shadow Kiss and Last Sacrifice will most likely kill you ;) )The protagonist, Rose Hathaway, is one of the most interesting and entertaining characters I have ever come across. Accompanied by her smart comebacks, empathetic personality and general sassiness; I love her so much.
Due to the number of books Vampire Academy is composed of, the series may put people off. It shouldn’t, but it probably does. If you are currently sat by your laptop, pondering over how long it will take you to read this series and whether or not it is worth it, then I encourage you to drop whatever you are holding, run to your nearest bookshop, and read the books. You will not be disappointed, though you may suffer extreme sadness towards the fact that you do not have your own Dimitri Belikov or Adrian Ivashkov...
Vampire Academy does have a spin-off series, ‘Bloodlines’, which I haven’t read, hoever need to get hold of asap. I JUST WANT TO LIVE IN THAT WORLD WITH ROSE AND LISSA AND DIMITRI AND *sigh*
Vampire Academy has recently been made into a movie, featuring the amazing Zoey Deutch (Rose) and Lucy Fry (Lissa).
Richelle Mead is a best-selling author, most famously known for Vampire Academy. She has, however, written a range of other books, including the 'dark swan' series.
