Where Rainbows End / Love, Rosie - Cecelia Ahern
“Note to self: Do not under any circumstances fall in love again.”
I have to admit my reasons for reading were the same as Emily's. I wanted to read the book before I see the film, Love Rosie that comes out in October. I loved the way the book was written through communication between the member's of the family. It isn't the first book I've read like that but normally the letters are really long and go into lots of detail, but with WRE the messages are short and leave lots to your imagination.
If you have seen the trailer then you will know that the film looks like it's going to be hilarious. The humor in the book doesn't disappoint. I was laughing the whole way through, I loved it. I won't go into detail but there is a scene in the trailer which I couldn't wait to see in writing that wasn't in the book. This confused me a little at the time but now I can see where it would fit in.
The book takes place over a very large period of time, which surprised me as in the film we have only seen them in their 18-20's. I think it's going to be interesting to see how much time the film takes place over. My only disappointment in the book is that would have loved to see Rosie and Alex in their teens a bit more, hopefully we'll get more of this in the film.
I loved the writing style and the story line was close to perfect. I highly recommend this book to teens upward, it's a great pool-side summer time read.
Happy Reading!

Firstly can we discuss how absolutely beautiful this cover is! I adore it almost as much as I adored this book!I have to admit the sole reason for me reading Where rainbows end ( also published as Love, Rosie or Rosie Dunne ) was because I saw the trailer for the adaptation and being a masssiiivvveee fan of both Lily Collins and Sam Claflin I had to read it.
It's told through a series of IM's, emails and letters which are sent from / to Rosie from both Alex - her best friend - and their close family and friends. At first this threw me a little and bearing in mind that we first meet these characters when they are only 7 or so years old and then follow their lives until they are in their 50's, I was a little confused on what time period it was set in because I doubt 50 years from now people would still be using the same technology that I'm using today but I guess that's just me wanting to know everything and anything about a story and time line.
Besides two of my favourite actors being in the adaptation what drew me in was definitely the humour displayed in the trailer and the book didn't disappoint. Of course as the characters grew older their humour changes but the first 50 pages had me in fits of laughter and I just loved watching it change as they grew up. The characters were also extremely relate-table and entirely believable, I often found myself imagining myself as Rosie because she was really just your stereo typical teen and I loved her for that.
This book made me think a lot, it is light hearted for the most part but seeing Rosie and Alex's lives move and change made me realise how short life is and how things that matter to me now will be more than forgotten in years to come. I can also happily say that this is the first 'adult' book I've ever read and although it was kinda daunting going upstairs to the adult section of foyles and trying to look mature and professional with all the businessmen ( okay there weren't business men but the lady at the till did not look particularly pleased that I was paying for my book in coins ) I can't really say that it was much different to a YA novel despite it being about adults instead of teens so I really enjoyed it! In other words, if you want to try an adult novel then go for it! I'm sure it will be just fine!
Happy Reading
