Where She Went - Gayle Forman
“I've become to realize there's a world of difference between knowing something happened, even knowing why it happened, and believing it.”
Firstly, although this review is completely spoiler free, events that happen foreshadow happenings in the first book 'if i stay' so if you are yet to read that and don't want to have some minor details spoilt then shoo! Go away and come back once you've finished!
As with any sequels I was slightly worried about reading this one as i didn't want it to ruin my opinion on if i stay but all my worries were for nothing because 'where she went' definitely lived up to my expectations.
Adam's band is now massive and he's thrown into the world of crazy fans, constant media attention and the loss of the reason he got his success - Mia. As for Mia, she has graduated early from the prestigious music college in NYC and is soon to begin her first tour, I'm sure you can all guess where it goes from here? Of course Mia and Adam just so happen to be in the same place at the same time and a lot of unanswered questions and surprising awkwardness surrounds them.
Adam, where do I start? This novel is narrated by Adam and I've never related to a character so much. Adam is still dealing with Mia's unforeseen absence and his sudden rise to fame has left him anxious and paranoid. He looses his love of music and has a rocky relationship with his band mates. I loved his narration and got a whole new perspective on his character and also on fame - I never want to be famous.
Now for Mia: in this book Mia did begin to annoy me but it was understandable and in some way necessary to the novel as we feel the same frustration as Adam although at some points she did feel like a different Mia to the one we originally met however obviously, characters grow up and change and judging by her past, I don't blame her.
My only fault in this book was that I read it right after reading If I stay and the change in narration confused me at some points because I was still living in Mia's brain but this book is set in Adam's but I can't really hold that against it because that isn't the authors fault, it's just me not being able to switch worlds so quickly.
I've also got a book tube review on both If I Stay and Where she Went, which you can find here:
Have a lovely weekend and Happy Reading!
